Massachusetts Enacts Stricter Regulations on PBMs, Reduces Cost-Sharing for Consumers

A new Massachusetts law strengthens regulation of pharmaceutical benefit managers (PBMs) and limits cost-sharing requirements for consumers, reports JDSupra. The law requires certain health plans, including MassHealth, to provide no-cost generic medications for chronic conditions like diabetes and asthma, while capping copays for select brand-name drugs at $25 per 30-day supply. Additionally, PBMs must obtain a license from the Division of Insurance, which is set to establish a licensing program by October 1, 2025.
