Connecticut has passed legislation to expand health benefits for first responders, reports WTNH News 8. The legislation aims to provide comprehensive coverage for medical conditions where the risk is greater due to occupational hazards. Data shows that firefighters face twice the risk of certain cancer compared to the general public. They face a one-and-a-half times greater risk for multiple myeloma and non-Hodgkin lymphoma. Women in the fire service get breast cancer at six times the national average.
