Federal Threat to Health Coverage for Undocumented Residents

Federal policy changes could penalize Connecticut for offering state-funded health insurance to undocumented immigrants, reports the CT Mirror. Known as “HUSKY for immigrants,” the program currently covers children under 19 and postpartum women. As of April 2025, about 15,600 children and 3,200 women are enrolled. Lawmakers have questioned whether the federal government can intervene since the program uses no federal funds. The policy dispute may have legal and financial implications for the state.
