Maine Bans Reporting Medical Debt to Credit Bureaus

Governor Janet Mills has signed a law banning the reporting of medical debt to credit agencies, reports SheppardMullin. The law prohibits medical creditors and collectors from sharing debt information with credit bureaus, regardless of repayment activity. It amends the Maine Fair Credit Reporting Act and removes past exceptions that allowed limited reporting.
