Virginia Protections Against Medical Debt
Virginia Governor Glenn Youngkin has signed HB 1725, also known as the Medical Debt Protection Act, reports the Virginia Poverty Law Center. The law prohibits home foreclosures due to medical debt and restricts wage garnishment related to unpaid medical bills. It also places limits on interest rates and late fees for medical debt. The measure is part of a broader effort to shield patients from financially ruinous medical costs.
