Colorado Passes Law to Limit Premium Increases
Colorado enacted HB25B-1006 to help blunt steep increases in health insurance premiums, reports Colorado Newsline. The law directs the sale of tax credits to raise $100 million for the Health Insurance Affordability Enterprise fund, which supports reinsurance for high-cost claims, subsidies on the exchange, and coverage for immigrants through the OmniSalud program. Without intervention, individual market premiums were projected to rise by 28% in 2026, with even higher increases along the Western Slope. State officials say the measure is critical to stabilizing the market and maintaining affordable coverage as enhanced federal premium tax credits expire.
