Maine Enacts Temporary Ban on Private Equity Acquisition of Health Facilities

Maine enacted a one-year moratorium on private equity takeovers of hospitals and other health facilities, reports News Center Maine. In June, Maine enacted a one-year moratorium on any private equity company or real estate investment trust acquiring or increasing ownership interest, operational control, or financial control in any hospital in Maine. The ban provides a temporary pause to allow for better understanding of private equity’s impact on Maine’s healthcare system.
