California’s Medicaid program has removed asset limits for enrollees and will instead only consider income when assessing financial eligibility, according to the California Health Care Foundation. Prior to 2022, people with more than $2,000 in qualified assets, including cash savings, were ineligible for the state’s Medi-Cal program. Assembly Bill 133 eliminated the asset test in two phases, with the limit raised to $130,000 in 2022 and eliminated altogether in 2024.
