Millions of Californians gain access to affordable IVF under new law

California will soon require many health insurers to cover in vitro fertilization (IVF) and other fertility treatments, reports CalMatters. Beginning Jan. 1, 2026, large group health plans must pay for infertility diagnosis and treatment, including IVF, easing the financial burden on the roughly 9 million Californians who struggle to conceive. The new law also expands the definition of infertility in state statute so that same-sex couples and single people aren’t excluded from fertility benefits.
