Connecticut to use $70M in surplus funds to offset looming ACA subsidy loss

Connecticut will allocate $70 million from state surplus funds to partially offset the expected loss of $295 million in enhanced Affordable Care Act (ACA) premium tax credits, reports the CTMirror. The move comes after the U.S. Senate failed to extend federal subsidies that help tens of thousands of residents afford health insurance through the Access Health CT marketplace, leaving many at risk of higher premiums in 2026. Lamont used emergency authority granted by the legislature to provide a one-year stopgap subsidy intended to keep premiums more stable, especially for low- and moderate-income individuals and families.
