New Public Health Laws Passed in Connecticut

Starting July 1, new Connecticut laws aim to expand reproductive health access and protect patient rights, reports Connecticut Public Radio. The session’s flagship public health bill require hospitals to provide emergency reproductive care, including abortions, when a pregnant patient’s health is seriously at risk. Providers are also prohibited from discriminating based on factors such as citizenship, ethnicity, or insurance status. The legislation also establishes a safe harbor fund to support nonprofits offering reproductive or gender-affirming care. This fund will be supported by private donations, not state funding.
