Maryland Authorizes Prescription Drug Upper Payment Limits 

Maryland has passed legislation expanding the authority of the state’s Prescription Drug Affordability Board, reports WYPR. Under HB424/SB357, the Board is empowered to set upper payment limits for drugs effective October 1, 2025. Upper payment limits cap what private plans or the state and local governments will pay for certain drugs in the state. If drug companies don’t cooperate, they will be barred from advertising and Maryland. The board will not be able to enforce limits on private plans until 2026.
