Rhode Island Passes Laws Targeting Medical Debt
Rhode Island has passed two laws designed to mitigate the impact of medical debt, reports insideARM. The first, S0169, prohibits credit reporting agencies from reporting an individual’s medical debt and prohibits liens against an individual’s home because of medical debt, and prohibits garnishment of wages for medical debt. The second, S0172, caps interest rates on medical debt.
